Course Description:
A 4-hour course focused on “reasonable fire code enforcement” as directed in s. 633.208(5), F.S., which states “If a threat to life safety or property exists, the fire official shall apply the applicable fire safety code for existing buildings to the extent practical to ensure a reasonable degree of life safety and safety of property or shall fashion a reasonable alternative that affords an equivalent degree of life safety and safety of property.” This statute was amended during the 2016 Florida Legislative session to provide a tool; NFPA 101A, Guide on Alternative Approaches to Life Safety. However, the application of the NFPA 101A quasi-performance based code is not an easy task. Therefore, the main focus of this seminar will be on how to apply the perimeter values in the NFPA 101A Fire Safety Evaluation System documents.
