Presents

Collaborating to Solve Complex Life Safety Issues

The Florida Legislature passed a law that says in part: Prior to applying the minimum fire safety code to an existing building, the local Fire Official shall determine that a threat to life safety or property exists. If a threat to life safety or property exists, the Fire Official shall apply the applicable fire safety code for existing buildings to the extent practical to assure a reasonable degree of life safety and safety of property or the fire official shall fashion a reasonable alternative which affords an equivalent degree of life safety and safety of property.

This seminar brings clarity as to why this law is in place and recent changes to this law underscoring legislative intent. This seminar provides training on tools that can best be used to "fashion a reasonable alternative" to meet the intent of this law. The provisions of NFPA 101A, Guide to Alternative Approaches to Life Safety will be discussed in detail and we will walk through examples of the Fire Safety Evaluation System found in this NFPA Guide.

We are seeking approval for these courses in accordance with the mandatory recertification requirements for Fire Safety Inspector and Fire Code Administrator under FAC 69A-39.009.
